This ancient tool, used for both the mundane and magical, was recovered from the Ladoga region of the Ukraine and dates to roughly the 9th or 10th Century. The Ladoga region at this time was home to the Rus or Vikings, as described in eyewitness accounts by Ahmad Ibn Fadlan, a diplomatic traveler from Baghdad.
