Rune is an ancient word that means “secret” or “mystery” as a sacred concept but the word betrays nothing of the secret or mystery implied. ?Are runes an ancient alphabet? ?A coded language? ?A divination tool? ?A power magic symbol? ?An energetic force of the universe? Yes. The runes are all of the above and more. Join Anneliese on an introductory exploration of what (or who?) runes are. Together we will explore some of the symbols and their meanings as they show up for you individually and for the group as a class. Not all runes will be discussed. Instead we will reach into the bag and see who shows up. By the end of the class, you will be able to: --Identify three ways the runes may be understood or applied; --Experience the runes as a tool for magical practice; --Connect with 3 concepts associated with at least 5 runes. Some of the deeper ritual that we will be experiencing will a full moon omen walk, ritual staff making and ecstatic practice. Northern Tradition Witchcraft 201 will culminate in a traditional High Seat Ceremony where you will have the chance to experience direct gnosis from ancestral spirits. This is a very special and unusual opportunity. This is not magical work that can be learned in books, observed on youtube or studied online.  Path of the Volva: Northern Tradition Magic
What is a Volva? She is the seeress and wise woman of the North spoken of for more than 1000 years. In the Eddas, she tells of the creation and the destruction of our world and she knows more than Gods, Giants or Men. In the sagas, she is a wandering seeress and bridge between worlds. Her energy is as ancient as the fjords, mountains and stones of the North. Following this path is not an easy pre-packaged craft. It requires patience and curiosity but rewards in flashing bright moments of wisdom and a solid connection to ancestors and land. The Path of the Volva draws from Norse and Germanic pre-Christian cosmology and texts but is not affiliated with Asatru, Heathenry or Troth organizations. The Volva walks her own path alone while respecting and recognizing the work and belief systems of others. Ultimately, her path is an ever developing and evolving landscape of magic, ritual, journey and healing guided by the wisdom of ancestors and walked in the modern world.
